Peter Cerneaz is a Sydney based artist. He creates a variety of art using his own unique style. He expresses his own personal ideas and emotions and he works for commission to deliver meaningful art that communicates ideas and emotions specific to the requirements of his clients.

His work has been selected in major art prizes including the Dobell Drawing Prize and The Blake Prize. He has been commissioned to create work for the Mater Hospital, The Augustinian Grace Chapel and Mercy Health Centre Thurgoona.

Abstraction

Peter has explored abstraction in his work for over 20 years. He has looked at abstraction in a 'modernist' formal way, as an extension of nature, as a reflection of social order and as a form of emotional expression.

Abstraction continues to excite Peter and he looks forward to using it in future projects

Trees

Peter has created many artworks based on the study of nature, particularly trees.

He uses the forms and patterns in trees to inform his other abstract work. He also uses the form of trees as allegories for human experiences.

Children art and the creative spirit

Peter's experience as a father has influenced his view of the world. He is interested in the art of children and their experience of life compared to the experience of adults. This interest has recently included the experience of adult with mental and physical challenges.

Peter is interested in the 'unfiltered' creative energy of children as a topic in his art

Psychological art

Peter has created many works which explore the emotion and psychology of people. These works draw on personal experiences.

Allegory

Peter will often explore complex issues in his images. In these works the whole image will be a representation of a group of ideas, perhaps around morality, perverse behavior, family relationships...etc...

Life drawing

Life drawing is a daily part of Peter's practice. He uses it to maintain his skills. For Peter drawing from life is an essential part of his practice. The most important skills which are used in life drawing are 'observation' and 'interpretation'. Peter believes that these 2 skills are essential to all his creative explorations.
