Around 2001, after visiting a few medieval cathedrals, I set myself a little challenge (see below). The challenge was born from my excitement on seeing the 13th century stained glass windows in the cathedrals. I noticed that even though the silhouette of the windows were identical the internal geometric design varied on every window. see images below.

     

I was bought up believing that the minimalist design style was king. Reduce unnecessary design, keep is as simple as possible, clean lines etc.. Here I discovered beautiful exploration, human thought, continual effort. Our modern world was saying fix it once then repeat; economy of scale; mass produce…

So back to my little challenge
