Matching forms and colours
It is important to match the shapes in the painting with the shape of the frame. The forms in this painting are slightly rounded so the slightly rounded frame is a better match with regard to the form.
Just as the form is important so to is the colour. Whatever colour you use in the frame highlights the matching part in the painting. Note how the warm silver frame (left) highlights the hair while the cool silver frame (right) highlights the face.
